CBSE to celebrate National Education Day on November 11

CHANDIGARH: The Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) is all set to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary freedom fighter and first education minister of independent India Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on November 11 by recalling his contribution to the cause of education. The day will be celebrated as National Education Day (NED) of India.

In tune with the need of the hour, this year's theme of NED celebration will be 'Skill-awareness and empowerment', The celebration aims to ensure that students are exposed to a number of projects that strengthen their sustainability in existing environment, enhance thinking, social and emotional skills, become self-motivated learners, get equipped with vocational skills, become part of new generation learners who focus on sustainable life skills, and make a positive impact on society.

Sub-themes for the projects include sanitation in and around school, Inclusive education, entrepreneurship, promoting health and well being, empowering girl child, adopting a school, gender sensitization, environmental issues, and 21st century skills.

As part of the celebration the schools can organize sustainable long term programmes to promote skill building among students. "Community outreach, entrepreneurial projects, vocational skills, life Skills and Industry based projects are also being integrated into the school curriculum. There is a distinct paradigm shift emerging in the education sector of new India," stated Sugandh Sharma, additional director (research and innovation), CBSE, in a recent notification.

The schools can also organize seminars, symposium, essay writing, elocution competitions, workshops and rallies on the importance of literacy and nation's commitment to all aspects of education.

The schools can register through the CBSE website www.cbseacademic.in on or before November 6 to participate in the programme.
