National Forest Skill Development Centre set up in Dehradun

ALMORA: A National Forest Skill Development Centre has been set up in Dehradun to equip youths for jobs in the forest sector and help mitigate the problem of migration of people from the hills in search of work.

HRD ministry invites VCs for national seminar on yoga

Ahead of the International Yoga Day celebrations, the human resource development ministry is holding a national level seminar on yoga on June 18, where vice-chancellors of all central universities would be present.

According to sources, HRD minister Smriti Irani would also be present in the seminar where apart from senior officials of her ministry, VCs, UGC top brass and yoga experts would be present.

Open universities also in online mode

 Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) has also started the online admission process for various degree, diploma and post-graduation courses. R D Darekar, coordinator of Ignou's regional centre at KTHM College, said admissions are open for the July-2016 session with the last date for certificate programmes being June 15.

UGC asks varsities to set up 24X7 helpline for admissions

NEW DELHI: With the new academic session being round the corner and admission process already under way in various universities, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked all varsities to set up round the clock helpline to address admission related queries.
"With the new academic session to commence soon, it is understood that all universities are getting busy with the process of admission in various programmes of study offered at different levels of higher education.

New HRD channels will telecast IIT lectures live

NEW DELHI: Students across the country would soon be able to watch live telecast of lectures from six IITs and some other top institutions while seated in their living rooms, with the Union human resource department launching 32 Direct-to-Home channels to cater to their needs.



The department of space has agreed to allot two transponders on a GSAT series satellite for this ambitious project, while MoUs have been signed with many institutions, which will provide lessons and content that will be beamed on these channels.
