IGNOU receives record three lakh applications for admissions

The Indira Gandhi National Open University has received a record three lakh applications this year. The university, which had introduced the online application process this year has registered an increase of 29 percent in the number of candidates who have applied.
"The university has received a record three lakh applications for the July 2015 cycle, and there has been an increase of more than 29 per cent as compared to last year," a university official said.
He added that, "The student's registration in the difficult and remote regions like Northeast (seven states) and Jammu and Kashmir have also shown increase. IGNOU has registered a four percent growth in the north-eastern states and 20 percent in Jammu and Kashmir."
"Through the online process, university has received 68,000 applications. We intend to extend this facility for all admission cycles- fresh and re-registrations beginning from January 2016," the official said.
Also, the varsity has also permitted the vertical mobility for Indian Army and Indian Air Force personnel under Project Gyandeep (Army), into third year of B.A., B.Com, B.Sc (Hons.) Applied Sciences from this session. "Under the scheme 7,500 applications have been received," he added.
The university had come up with a pan-India online admission system earlier this year and July 2015 cycle was the first to accept applications through this system.
