Ignou VC, wife go ‘missing’ on trip to attend wedding (Times of India)

NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University vice-chancellor Mohd Aslam could be one of the thousands stuck in the Kashmir floods.

The VC has been incommunicado since September 7, even as the university administration is frantically trying to get in touch with him. The officials have also tried to reach him through various other sources but all their efforts have so far gone in vain.

According to senior university officials, the VC and his wife left for Kashmir to attend a marriage ceremony and were supposed to return by Sunday morning. "He was on a personal visit to attend a marriage. As per information available with the university, he was accompanied by his wife. He was scheduled to return on Sunday. However, he didn't. And then news of the floods came. There has been no communication from him so far. We are assuming that the communication networks at his location aren't working. His mobile phone and that of one Prof Kadri, his host, are not reachable."

The university administration has touched base with the state administration as well as defence personnel deployed in Kashmir for conducting flood relief operations.

Till the time of filing of this report, the university is yet to hear from any sources or from the vice chancellor about his condition.

According to another official in the VC's office, Aslam was supposed to be in Hazratbal area. He was supposed to put up at Ward 12, Broadway Lane, Professor Colony.
