Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has won Horticulture Awards. In Garden Contest, IGNOU has won 7 trophies under the categories of Public Garden (Large, and small), garden attached to a Govt. institution (Large, and small), building Veranda, corridor, and Vegetable Garden .
The university has won 10 more trophies for its vegetables, individual flowers, group of flowers, group of vegetables and combinations of both. Besides these trophies, the cell has also received 27 appreciation prizes (15 First rank, 07 Second rank and 05 Third rank) for floral pots in various categories.
The Horticulture cell of IGNOU had participated in the flower exhibitions /competitions organized by Delhi Agri-Hort. Society (DAHS), Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI), Pusa, New Delhi.
The Delhi Agri- Horti. Society (DAHS), under the banner of IARI, New Delhi had organized a floral show and also contests for the Institutional Gardens under different categories at Pusa Campus, New Delhi.
Prof. M. Aslam, IGNOU, VC appreciated and lauded the achievements of the Cell and desired that beekeeping and other such avenues may be initiated. He also explored that the vacant land available in the campus shall be handed over to the Cell for the for scaling up of production of vegetables, and other avenue plants. He also stressed that the cell may work in tandem with the School of Agriculture for the agricultural development.
The chairman of the Horticulture Cell highlighted the achievements of the Cell and innovations in the Cell for the plant growth and biodiversity maintenance in the campus. He also indicated future plans such as starting beekeeping and scaling up the agro-waste recycling. All the Directors of the Schools, Heads of the Division, Centre and Units were also present.
