School of Gender and Development Studies, IGNOU has launched a certificate in gender, agriculture, and sustainable development (CGAS). The course is available through Open Distance Learning Mode.
The course aims to create awareness about gender roles and typology of issues in sustainable agriculture and make learners aware of sustainable development in relation to gender and agriculture, claims IGNOU. The course aims to build capacities in gender research in agriculture, it added.
The six-month course will touch upon global issues including feminization of agriculture, gender biases in agriculture, and rural development among others
“Due to gender inequalities in society, women lack ownership, access, and control over resources and lack decision-making. Even though industrialization has changed agricultural activities, still women perform more labor-intensive farm activities such as weeding and harvesting. In this context, agriculture needs to look towards sustainability in its planning and policy process and the women’s contribution to sustainable agricultural development. This ODL programme on ‘Gender, Agriculture and Sustainable Development’ will address these issues to create awareness among all stakeholders,” IGNOU said in an official statement.
Anyone with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from government recognized institute can apply for the course. Interested can apply at the official website – ignouadmissions.smarth.edu.in.
