On 11th November 2019, to mark the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of India, School of Education, IGNOU organized National Education Day. The event was chaired by Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice Chancellor where in Prof. Salil Misra Pro-vice Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Delhi delivered lecture on “Maulana Azad and Higher Education: Challenges and Opportunities. Prof. Rajendra Prasad Das and Prof. Satyakam, the Pro-vice Chancellors of the University addressed about various issues related to higher education in India those are to be reflected upon and deliberated. The dignitaries were welcomed by Prof. D. Venkateshwarlu, the Director, School of Education.
Prof. Nageshwar Rao, the VC of the University while remembering Maulana jee and his social transformation advocacy, he extolled the exemplary contribution of IGNOU in national building and particularly its indelible imprints in the field of education. In his speech, Prof. Salil Misra, a well known historian urged that there is a clear need to adopt a pragmatic tradition and synthesize our inherent traditional strength with modern day technological innovations in parallel to fulfilling demands of higher education in the country. The speech was followed by a discussion session.
The programme ended with and a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Amitav Mishra, the Convener of the Organizing Committee. Senior faculty members particularly Prof. Vibha Joshi, Prof. N.K. Dash, Ms. Poonam Bhushan and the members of the organizing committee, Dr. Niradhar Dey, Sh. Ajithkumar C., Shri K.K. Sharma contributed towards the success of the event. The research students of the School presented the welcome song and hosted the event.
