Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao said that the government was committed to encouraging sports by giving cash awards to those who bagged medals in national and international events.
At the National Sports Day celebrations and Fit India programme held at AU Convention Hall on Thursday, he said that the birth anniversary of hockey Olympian Dhyan Chand was being observed as the ‘National Sports Day’. “The government is organising YSR Kreeda Protsahakalu from August 29 to September 4 in all districts to encourage sportspersons,” he said.
“The ‘Fit India’ programme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is meant for promoting fitness. Everyone should participate in it to improve their health. The government is constructing integrated sports complexes in Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Tirupati, which would training for different sports at a common place,” Mr. Srinivasa Rao said, adding that ‘an integrated sports complex would come up in 150 acres at Aganampudi.’
