Strengthening Health & Wellness Centres

National Health Mission, J&K, as an endeavour to strengthen Health & Wellness Centres (HWCs) in the State for providing Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) under Ayushman Bharat, India’s path to Universal Health Coverage, selected 500 Mid-Level Health Providers (MHLPs) for undergoing 6 months Bridge Programme Certificate Course in Community Health (BPCCCH) - July, 2019 session from IGNOU/ University of Kashmir.These provisionally selected MLHPs include 180 BAMS/ BSc Nursing & GNMs candidates for undergoing the course at four (4) Programme Study Centres of IGNOU in Jammu Division, 120 BAMS/ BSc Nursing & GNMs candidates for undergoing the course at four (2) Programme Study Centres of IGNOU in Kashmir Division and 200 BUMS candidates, including 14 from Jammu Division & 186 from Kashmir Division, for undergoing the course through University of Kashmir.After successful completion of 6 months training, these MLHPs will be placed in the HWCs at Sub-Centre level, to ensure CPHC to the people at grass root level. The State has undertaken to upgrade all the Primary Health Centres, NTPHCs, UPHCs and Sub-Centres as HWCs by December 2022 in phased manner. 

Reduction of Admission fee in Certificate Programme in YOGA from 10000/- to 5000/-



The Certificate Programme in YOGA was launched in July 2019 with admission fee of Rs. 10000/-. The admission fee of this programme is revised from Rs. 10000/- to Rs. 5000/-

Govt. is committed to promoting sports

Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao said that the government was committed to encouraging sports by giving cash awards to those who bagged medals in national and international events.
At the National Sports Day celebrations and Fit India programme held at AU Convention Hall on Thursday, he said that the birth anniversary of hockey Olympian Dhyan Chand was being observed as the ‘National Sports Day’. “The government is organising YSR Kreeda Protsahakalu from August 29 to September 4 in all districts to encourage sportspersons,” he said.
“The ‘Fit India’ programme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is meant for promoting fitness. Everyone should participate in it to improve their health. The government is constructing integrated sports complexes in Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Tirupati, which would training for different sports at a common place,” Mr. Srinivasa Rao said, adding that ‘an integrated sports complex would come up in 150 acres at Aganampudi.’

Ignou, Royal Society of Chemistry to hold lectures

Nagpur: As part of its annual flagship programme, The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), West India, and Ignou Nagpur regional centre will jointly organize various activities related to science for students on September 3 and 4. 
Ignou will be coordinating the activities and the events will be held in collaboration with the department of chemistry, Nagpur University, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) and Saraswati Vidyalaya.

This year, the activities are designed with a special focus on ‘Green sources of energy to reduce pollution’ and ‘Good science communication skills’ for UG and PG students of NU and its affiliated colleges. 

Professor Deepa Khushlani from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai, will deliver a lecture on the topic on September 3 at chemistry department at 10.30am.

Five-foot long python rescued from IGNOU Campus

Monday morning started on a startling note for students and staff at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) campus in west Delhi’s Maidan Garhi, when a five-foot long Indian rock python was found inside a crack in the boundary wall.
While the snake was trapped in the narrow space, the IGNOU staff dialled Wildlife SOS, an NGO involved in wildlife conservation. A two-member team was sent to the campus to rescue the python.
“We had to break off a part of the brick wall to safely extricate the snake. It took almost an hour to safely carry out the rescue operation,” said a statement issued by Wildlife SOS.

PU distance learning course fee 3 times more than IGNOU's

CHANDIGARH: Panjab University distance learning courses at the University School of Open Learning (USOL) cost candidates three times more on an average than Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). While candidates have to pay Rs 10,000 to pursue an MA degree from IGNOU, they have to pay Rs 30,000 for the same course at PU's USOL. 

For BA, the difference is even higher with PU charging Rs 38,000 fee for three years, compared to Rs 7,000 fee at IGNOU.


"I wanted to pursue MA in English via distance learning in my preparations for the civil services exam. But the course at PU is too costly and out of my budget," said Pooja Singh, a schoolteacher at a private school in Chandigarh. "I was thinking of PU because it was near my home and I could go to the university in case of any requirement. But now, I will go in for IGNOU course, which is much cheaper," she said.

IGNOU Extends Last Date For Admission In July 2019 Cycle

NEW DELHI: 
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has further extended the application date for admission in the July 2019 cycle. The University had, earlier, extended the last date for online application to today, i.e. August 14, which has been further extended to August 27.
IGNOU conducts admission process in two cycles - January cycle and July cycle. Students, who take admission in the July cycle, ideally appear for their first exam in June next year.
The admission form can be submitted online on the official website of the varsity. The IGNOU said in statement that fresh admission seekers can create user ID and fill in the online form for instant issue of confirmation of form submission and online payment through net banking/debit card/credit card.
For ease of application, the University has uploaded links to two servers on its official website. Server I is for students who have uploaded documents in their application fee but have not paid the application fee and Server II is for new students who have not uploaded documents yet.
After the online application is complete, IGNOU will review all applications and documents submitted and then release identity cards for students who are eligible for admission. The identity cards for the students will be uploaded in the candidate's profile created by the student at the time of application.

NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has declared the Term End Exam Results June 2019 on its official website today, i.e., August 14, 2019. The candidates who have appeared for the IGNOU TEE 2019 can visit the official website of IGNOU— ignou.ac.in - to check and download their result.

IGNOU honours veterans of Azad Hind Fauj on 77th Anniversary of Quit India Movement

IGNOU’s Centre of Freedom Struggle and Diaspora Studies honoured Lt. Bharati Choudhary alias Asha Sahay of the Rani Jhansi Regiment of Azad Hind Fauz, Lt. B.N. Pandey, INA and Lt. R. Madhawan INA, the veterans of Azad Hind Fauj for their courage, bravery and contributions for the freedom of Motherland. They had served the Azad Hind Fauj under the Azad Hind Sarkar, the first Government of United India which hoisted the Flags at Moirang and Andaman. They were honoured by Vice-Chancellor IGNOU, Prof. Nageshwear Rao with "Letter of Appreciation" at the inaugural session of the Two-day seminar organized by the Centre of Freedom Struggle and Diaspora Studies, IGNOU on “Showcasing India’s Freedom Struggle through Museums” at B. R. Ambedkar Convention Centre, IGNOU HQ. Lt. Bharati Choudhary and Lt. B.N. Pandey, INA shared their experiences with the audience and also shared their interactions/experiences with Neta ji in INA.
In his introductory address at the inaugural session of the seminar, Prof. Kapil Kumar, Director, Centre of Freedom Struggle and Diaspora Studies, IGNOU who is also the Chief Historian for the four Museums built in the Red Fort, New Delhi, viz., (a) 1857; (b) INA and Bose; (c) Azadi ke Diwane and (d) Jallianwala Bagh, and one at National Library, Kolkata on Icons of Indian Nationalism from the Soil of Bengal, said that the whole purpose of penning history through museum is to highlight the contributions of the forgotten heroes and bring to limelight the immense contribution of the common people in the freedom struggle of India. He said that it pains him as a historian to see the immense involvement of the common people being neglected by our history writers which he wants to showcase through the museums. Talking about Azad Hind Fauzs’ contributions, he said that the endeavour has been to show the documents, letters, and speeches of Neta ji Subhash Chandra Bose to let people know of the INA’s contribution in the freedom struggle. History belongs to the people; he said advocating new version of history told through museums.

Ignou to enhance skills of Odisha health workers

BHUBANESWAR: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will offer six-month course to accredited social health activist (ASHA) workers of 10 districts in the state to enhance their knowledge about food, nutrition and guidance.

National Health Mission (NHM) is sponsoring the programme for the health workers. Ignou has already received over 5,200 applications from these village-level health workers. Last date to apply for the course is August 14.


Santosh Kumar Panigrahy, assistant regional director of Ignou's Bhubaneswar region, said two certificate courses will be offered to the ASHA workers. These are certificate in food and nutrition (CFN) and certificate in guidance (CIG). The health workers will opt one of the two subjects.

The health workers will be taught about the nutrients contained in different items of food, needs of the human body in terms of various nutrients at different stages of life and consequences of taking more or wrong types of food. It will also discuss on ways of selecting food articles, the techniques for processing, cooking and preserving them.

CIG course caters to the needs of teachers, parents, social worker and others interested in guiding children aged between five to 11 years for their better learning and socio-emotional development. This is an awareness level programme that focuses on their overall development.


"We have received willingness of 6,553 health workers from 10 districts to enroll for the courses. These district are- Balasore, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Khurda, Kendrapada, Sambalpur, Cuttack, Jajpur and Kandhamal," he added.


He said the courses will be offered in July-December session. The course fee is Rs 1600 per each health worker. NHM has invested around Rs 1 crore to sponsor the admission fee. 


Odisha has more than 47,000 ASHA workers. "Some of them have no formal education, so the Ignou has not taken educational qualification as criteria for the course. Odia will be the medium of teaching and course materials," said Panigrahy.


"If more ASHA workers show interest for enrolment, we will offer them these courses. We are also planning to add more courses in future for this programme," said the assistant regional director.
