JAIPUR: In a bid to revive technical education, Engineerng Council of India (ECI), a body under AICTE will provide 5 lakh internships to engineeringstudents in the coming years, said MP Poonia, vice-chairman, AICTE. Poonia, who was in Jaipur to attend an educational programme on Sunday, said that AICTE has taken slew of measures to fish out the engineering and management colleges from the slowdown. Poonia said that AICTE has collaborated with several industries for the internship programme.
“These internships will provide students a platform which will give them industry experience. This experience is required for them to become employable,” said Poonia. The institutes have signed an MoU with the ECI for entering into ECI internship programme. These internships are available in all sectors for students. The move is one among several moves to make engineering students employable. Minister of state for HRD, Satya Pal Singh, also said that HRD ministry is at wits’ end to improve the technical education scenario in the state.
Rajasthan’s technical institutes are among the lowest beneficiaries of funding agencies. The AICTE has asked the institutes to encourage their students to apply for these funds under several programmes. The state of technical education in Rajasthan is also very poor. Several colleges have closed down in the past five years due to dearth of students.
