Two schools under one roof

As the Bosnian government seeks to reintegrate education after the war of the 1990s, Two Schools Under One Roof is a first step.

“It was easy with people but not easy with politics”. Halid Mustafic is Director of the Konjic School in Bosnia Herzogovina.
Following the Bosnian war in the 1990s the education system was left divided along ethnic lines. Bosniak Muslims, Croats and Serbs were taught separately and with completely different curricula.
The government is looking to integrate education where the local populations are themselves mixed. Thus Bosniaks and Croats, living side by side, should be able to attend the same school.
The policy is being implemented gradually with the first stages being ‘Two schools under one roof’. Here the two communities share a school building but the children are taught separately in it. This film reflects on this and on recent moves to share the management and leadership of these unique institutions.

Can computers take the teacher out of the classroom?

The Hole In The Wall experiment uncovered some surprising findings about how children from the poorest parts of India react to, and interact with, computers - and how the findings are shaping education in classrooms.

Teachers Beyond Borders

Introducing Teachers Beyond Borders, a non-profit organisation passionate about boosting literacy and teaching standards for children with special needs in Ghana

“We had so much knowledge that we could exchange and so much experience to share...”
Judy Lawson is the co-founder of Teachers Beyond Borders, a not-for-profit organisation based in North London working with special needs education in Ghana.
Championing an interactive approach with children at the centre of learning, they work with teachers and connect them with others both within Ghana, the UK and elsewhere. In doing so they recognised that their expertise had to be coupled with the local knowledge and understanding of teachers in Ghana.
Although they had expected to focus on staff development but soon found that they had to address issues of resourcing and infrastructure. Changing the curriculum and pedagogical approach has many other implications.
